Description
Communiqué is a media and intelligence company dedicated to producing high‑quality data, insights, and stories about Africa’s media and creative economy. The Research Lead will oversee the entire research function, set the agenda, ensure methodological rigor, pursue funded and commercial opportunities, and build institutional relationships. This senior leadership role requires strategic thinking, strong judgment, and the ability to guide both internal teams and external consultants.

Responsibilities:
1. Define and lead the research agenda, identifying key themes and gaps
2. Develop and enforce high research standards and methodologies
3. Pursue grants, commissions, tenders, and commercial research opportunities
4. Guide the creation of reports, white papers, policy briefs, indices, and datasets
5. Build and maintain relationships with universities, funders, and institutions
6. Represent Communiqué at conferences, forums, and stakeholder meetings
7. Mentor junior researchers, interns, and consultants
8. Provide research insights to support proposals, advisory work, editorial, and events
Requirements:
1. Proven experience in research, policy, consulting, or intelligence
2. Strong knowledge of qualitative, quantitative, and desk research methods
3. Demonstrated ability to choose appropriate methodologies for diverse projects
4. Track record of contributing to published research projects
5. Ability to translate complex findings into clear, actionable insights
6. Excellent written and verbal communication skills
7. Capacity to work independently in a remote team environment
8. Experience with proposals, funding applications, or commercial research
9. Knowledge of Africa’s creative economy, media, culture, or technology sectors is desirable
